Abstract:
A total of 575 cumacean specimens, identified to 12 species, have been collected during three cruises off the Mediterranean coast of Israel at depths between 1241 and 1557 m. Most of the species have a wide AtlantoMediterranean distribution. Faunistic composition resembles that recorded from similar depths in the western Mediterranean, but with fewer species. Specimens of Platysympus typicus showed a morphological character unmentioned in the original description. The taxonomical status of this species is discussed.
